Real Madrid ask for information about Leonardo spinazzola

Real Madrid have revived their interest in AS Roma left-back Leonardo Spinazzola, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, and have enquired about his availability in the summer transfer window.

Spinazzola was a product of Juventus’ youth system, but he spent the most of his time with the Bianconeri on loan. Indeed, the 29-year-old spent time on loan with Siena, Empoli, Virtus Lanciano, Atalanta, Vicenza, and Perugia before committing his future to Roma in 2019.

Spinazzola has established himself as Roma’s left-back after joining the club and has made 75 appearances for the club, scoring four goals and providing 11 assists. Simultaneously, the defender is a regular for the Italian national team, having earned 19 caps for the Azzurri.

Last year, Spinazzola was in good form for Italy during UEFA Euro 2020, but a nasty knee injury cut short his season. However, before his injury, the 29-year-old played a key role in Roberto Mancini’s side’s success in the early rounds of the tournament.
Spinazzola was out of action for nearly ten months after undergoing surgery on his ailing knee and just returned to Roma last month, playing four games in all competitions. The 29-year-old also played for Italy in their Finalissima 2022 loss to Argentina earlier this week.

Prior to his injury, Real Madrid had expressed interest in Spinazzola. The Spanish and European champions have rekindled their pursuit of the 29-year-old Italian international and have made inquiries regarding his present status now that he has recovered to full fitness and is back in action.

Real Madrid will most likely look for a new left-back this summer as the club prepares to say goodbye to Marcelo. The 34-year-contract old’s expires at the end of the month, and Fenerbahce has expressed interest in signing him. Carlo Ancelotti tended to utilize David Alaba as a centre-back this season, so his departure would leave Ferland Mendy as the lone option at left-back.

However, with Real Madrid announcing the acquisition of Antonio Rudiger, Alaba might revert to his natural left-back position. Despite this, Los Blancos are still interested in Spinazzola and have requested information on his current condition and availability.

The contract of Alessandro Spinazzola with Roma expires in 2024, and it will be intriguing to watch whether Real Madrid pursues him further this summer.
