In the preseason, Kalidou Koulibaly, a new signing to Chelsea, will don the legendary No. 26 shirt.
Blues fans felt the number had been retired since club great John Terry no longer sports it. In 2017, Terry departed the group.
Koulibaly, who came from Napoli this weekend, will wear the No. 26 shirt during preseason, according to the club’s official website.
Terry, one of Chelsea’s all-time greatest players, played for the team from 1998 to 2017 while donning the No. 26 shirt.
Also favoring the No. 26, Koulibaly wore it during each of his eight seasons at Napoli.
According to Chelsea, Raheem Sterling, who recently moved from Manchester City, will wear No. 17 during preseason.
The last time Saul Niguez wore the shirt was for the last election.
Conor Gallagher, who just returned to Chelsea following a successful loan at Crystal Palace, will don No. 15 for the remainder of preseason after donning No. 38 against Club America.
Kurt Zouma was the final player to wear No. 15, and he left the team in August 2021.
After winning 2-1 over Club America in their first friendly, Chelsea will play two more matches in the US against Charlotte and Arsenal. After that, they’ll take on Udinese in an away preseason game in Italy.
