Marcelo could face Real Madrid in the Champions League next season

Marcelo is a UEFA Champions League veteran and one of the top left-backs in football history. In the 2021/22 season, the Real Madrid star won his sixth UCL title, and despite being a reserve player, the 34-year-old saw 94 minutes of action off the bench in the sport’s most prestigious championship.

There has been a lot of speculation about where Marcelo would play next season, and a number of clubs outside of Europe’s top five are interested in signing him. Real Valladolid and Ronaldo Nazario have a long history together in LaLiga.

There is, however, another possibility that is more fascinating. According to Ozgur Sancar of Diario AS, Serie A champions Milan have made Marcelo an offer and are serious about signing him as a free agent.

Marcelo is being offered a salary of three million euros by Milan. Milan’s decision to offer a backup left-back, given their financial constraints, seems reasonable. But, given that Marcelo earned six million euros a year at Real and could earn the same amount from a club outside of Europe’s top five, he has a right to demand more.

If the Rossoneri are serious about bringing in the experienced Brazilian as a backup to another former Real Madrid player, Theo Hernandez, they may push for it. It would be insane for them to spend for Marcelo, but he has plenty of Champions League experience and remains a dangerous attacking presence thanks to his technical ability and football IQ.
This indicates that the Serie A winners and a team on the verge of returning to the Champions League are keen on signing Marcelo: the Brazilian legend might play Real Madrid in the UCL next season. Whether it’s for the Rossoneri or for a different team.
