Chelsea’s last two games looked to have more on the line up until Monday night, with a spot in the Champions League still up for grabs, but Thomas Tuchel’s nerves have been soothed for the next four days as the season comes to a close at Stamford Bridge.
After a third consecutive FA Cup final disappointment and several weeks of disappointing performances, the arrival of Leicester offers a chance to lift Chelsea’s spirits.
Tuchel may be tempted to experiment given the safety of the top four and the fact that third place is only a point away. However, the reverse fixture at the King Power in November feels like a long time ago, when Chelsea had both Reece James and Ben Chilwell fit and comfortably beat Leicester 3-0 to go top of the league.
A win here would give them their greatest points total in a Premier League season since Antonio Conte’s 2016/17 campaign, which, despite the vast distance to Manchester City, should still be considered improvement.
