Chelsea left-back dropped from pre-season squad

Left-back for Chelsea Baba Rahman was left off of Thomas Tuchel’s 29-man team that departed England last week for a preseason tour of America.

The 27-year-old still has two years left on his Chelsea contract and remains under contract.

However, Chelsea declined to say why Baba Rahman was left off the preseason roster.

Baba Rahman signed a five-year contract with Chelsea in August 2015, and on September 16 he made his UEFA Champions League debut, playing the full 90 minutes in a 4-0 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv at home.

Since making his Chelsea debut, the Ghanaian international has not played again.

He made 29 appearances for Reading last season as a regular, and it’s believed that Reading and Middlesbrough are in a bidding war for his services.

A number of European teams, notably Stade Reims, RCD Mallorca, Schalke 04, and Greek side POAK, have taken on the loan of Baba Rahman.

Below is a list of the Chelsea players selected for preseason.

Goalkeepers: Edouard Mendy, Teddy Sharman-Lowe, Marcus Bettinelli, Kepa Arrizabalaga

Defenders: Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, Ethan Ampadu, Cesar Azpilicueta, Ben Chilwell, Levi Colwill, Reece James, and Kenedy

Midfielders: Harvey Vale, Jorginho, Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher, Billy Gilmour, Ross Barkley, and Conor Gallagher

Forwards: Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic, Tino Anjorin, and Michy Batshuayi

Rahman, who is now 27 and has played for Chelsea for 7 years, wants to leave the team.
