Atletico madrid rival Real Madrid and Manchester city In Rafael Leao

According to a report by Spanish website Fichajes, Atletico Madrid is interested in signing Rafael Leao during the summer transfer season. Real Madrid and Manchester City are both interested in the Portuguese international, who might move AC Milan before the 2022/23 season.

After a fantastic season with AC Milan, Rafael Leao has become one of Europe’s hottest assets. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic struggling with fitness, the 22-year-old became the Rossoneri’s talismanic figure and was instrumental in their Serie A title success this season.

In 34 Serie A appearances, the Portuguese international scored 11 goals and added 10 assists, earning him the MVP award after leading Milan to the title. Leao’s stock has since surged, with some of Europe’s most prestigious teams, like Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Atletico Madrid, lining up to sign him.

Real Madrid’s interest has grown as a result of their failure to sign Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchman was a top target for Los Blancos until he unexpectedly turned down a Bosman transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu. As a result, Leao has emerged as a potential option for Real Madrid, who are willing to pay a high price to get his services.
In terms of Manchester City, Leao is a viable alternative given the uncertainty surrounding Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus’ futures. According to recent rumours, Manchester City and Jorge Mendes are in talks about a prospective summer deal.

Atletico Madrid’s involvement in the transfer crisis might add to the confusion, with the Colchoneros considering Leao as a potential replacement for Yannick Carrasco. In the summer transfer window, the Belgian international might join Newcastle United, leaving Atletico Madrid short-handed on the left side.
Diego Simeone has granted Atletico Madrid permission to chase Leao. However, with Real Madrid and Manchester City also involved, the transfer process might go weeks. Thus, keeping the Portuguese international beyond the summer transfer window would be a difficult assignment for AC Milan.
